Summary
Community TV Network, a youth media organization based in Chicago, is seeking an assistant director. The assistant director’s primary responsibility is to support the executive director in carrying out the organization’s strategic plan. This responsibility includes program oversight and evaluation, staff development, fundraising, and facilitating collaborative efforts with partner organizations. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be a team player with a youth development and arts background. The position requires 30-35 hours per week.
Organization
Since its founding in 1974, CTVN has utilized media as an educational tool to improve the education, quality of life, and opportunities available to underserved youth in Chicago. CTVN empowers youth by engaging them in the creative and collaborative process of digital video production. Harnessing this dynamic process and the resulting media content, CTVN promotes positive youth and community development with the overall goal of raising the educational success and economic viability of the neighborhoods in which youth participants live and work. CTVN programs instill in youth the awareness, motivation, and tools they need to create positive futures for themselves and their neighborhoods.
Primary Responsibilities
-Assist the executive director in carrying out the organization’s strategic plan
-Align program elements to the vision and mission of the organization
-Lead teaching artists in modifying, when necessary, the organization’s ever-evolving youth development curriculum
-Facilitate current collaborations with partner organizations
-Establish and maintain additional collaborations that benefit the organization
-Manage the organization’s expansive youth media library and database
Program Oversight
-Assist the executive director in supporting and evaluating all youth programs
-Author and implement evaluation measures for each program
-Collect and analyze data from programs and make recommendations to the executive director
-Along with the executive director, lead staff development for teaching artists
-Recruit, train, and oversee volunteer and college intern staff
-Create and maintain program budgets
Fundraising
-Collaborate with resources developer to create and implement fundraising strategy, including grant writing, individual donor campaigns, and corporate sponsorships.
-Author all major program-specific and operating grants
-Complete grant reporting responsibilities for major grants
-Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors
Qualifications
-Film and media production experience, preferably in the realm of youth education
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a community-based non-profit environment
-Knowledge of youth development principles and best practices
-Commitment to empowering youth from diverse communities
-At least 3-5 years experience in the non-profit sector
-At least 1-2 years experience in a non-profit management position
-Knowledge of bookkeeping software and small business accounting practices
-Bachelor’s degree or greater from a four year college or university
-Proven ability to work collaboratively, multitask effectively, and problem solve
-Experience with long term planning and execution
-Excellent oral and written communications skills
