Job Description: FILMSCHOOL COORDINATOR of
Real to Reel Filmschool
Start: in September 2010 Part-Time: 24 hrs/wk.
Supervisor: Chris Gaines, Real to Reel Filmschool Director

RAW ART WORKS is looking for a part-time Filmschool Coordinator to assist in our Real to Reel
Filmschool, working with teens, guest artists, relationship building, and all aspects of filmmaking. The
candidate should have a solid background in film and video production (Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, high
proficiency using Apple Computers) and preferably have previous experience working with youth. The
candidate must be a team player while also being very organized, personable, and self-motivated. This
person must be able prioritize job duties, work independently, and be able to communicate well. The
emergence of the Filmschool Coordinator position compliments a new initiative of the Real to Reel
program that will expand community awareness of RAW’s filmschool program through the in-depth
exposure of the intermediate and advanced students to guest artists and industry professionals.

ABOUT RAW ART WORKS
A nationally recognized, community-based youth arts organization, Raw Art Works (RAW) has steadfastly
pursued its mission to ignite the desire to create and the confidence to succeed in underserved youth.
RAW launched its programming in 1988 when it won a contract with the Massachusetts Department of
Youth Services to develop the first statewide art therapy program for incarcerated youth. In 1994, RAW
established RAW Space, a studio in downtown Lynn, to serve at-risk youth in this deeply challenged inner-
city area. Currently, RAW serves over 400 young people each year in our studio-based programs,
supplemented by over 2,500 additional contacts with young people through outreach activities that take
art-making onto the streets of Lynn. RAW’s programs integrate arts education, leadership development,
and mentoring. We focus equally on giving youth the tools to create exceptional artwork and on helping
them develop life skills such as problem solving, self-efficacy, and teamwork.

ABOUT REAL TO REEL FILMSCHOOL
The students in the Real to Reel (R2R) program at Raw Art Works learn how to creatively and
constructively approach the art of visual storytelling. Using their own stories and experiences to draw
from, the R2R members are asked to explore who they are, exposing their identities to the world. From
pre-production through post-production, our students learn the responsibilities of preparing, shooting, and
finishing a film, and what it really means to say, "I'm a filmmaker." Furthermore, in the process of learning
how to make films, our students gain a larger understanding of the role that popular media plays in their
lives and how it affects their worldview.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF REAL TO REEL FILMSCHOOL and RAW ART WORKS:
• Films produced by RAW teens play regularly across the nation at film festivals, galleries and on
television. Past venues include the Museum of Television and Radio (NYC), the Chicago
International Film Festival, the Arizona International Film Festival, the Institute of Contemporary
Art (Boston), and MTV Networks.
• In 2006, Massachusetts Cultural Council recognizing innovative community art programs awarded
Real to Reel with the “Gold Star” designation. In 2005 the Massachusetts Cultural Council
awarded RAW Art Works with the “Commonwealth Award” and in 2003 with the “Citizens Bank
Community Champion Award.”
