JOB OPENING: DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING INSTRUCTOR FOR “THE LAB”

LAB INSTRUCTOR for Reel Works’ award winning Lab workshop, a six-month intensive documentary filmmaking workshop that matches at-risk Brooklyn teens one-on-one with professional filmmakers. The Lab, offered twice a year in fall and spring semesters, is the marquee program in our continuum of free after school workshops that engage and challenge high school students to create short personal narrative films about their lives and communities.

The Lab Instructor leads a demanding curriculum in documentary film storytelling, camera technique and Final Cut Pro Editing and is engaged in recruiting, selecting and guiding a diverse and challenging group of young filmmakers. The Lab Instructor also helps recruit, train, guide and assess volunteer mentors. Candidates must have extensive professional filmmaking experience and excellent technical skills. Most importantly, the Lab Instructor must engage, challenge and inspire young storytellers to achieve the excellence they are capable of. This is a part time position, 20 hours a week, $20-$25/hour commensurate with experience and skills. Begins September, 2009.
