How to VIP

Step 1: Tell the world (May 22nd June 1st)!

  • Encourage as many friends, family and social networks to watch, review and rate films beginning May 24 through midnight EST June 17, 2007.

Step 2: Watch, Review and Rate

  • Ratings without reviews are discarded.
  • Mean or disrespectful reviews won’t be posted however, thoughtful criticism is encouraged.
  • Filmmakers who have submitted work to VIP2007 must watch, review and rate 5 films from an organization (or school) that is not theirs.
  • We’ve created a Special Award for Best Participation for the organization that best embodies thoughtful production and discussion of youth media. We’ve also created Special Award for Best Single Review for a youth or mentor who writes the best online review of somebody else’s work. NOTE: We give reviews of constructive criticism and reviews of praise equal weight in this category.

Step 3: Find Out if You’re a VIP

  • Announcement of Awards on Monday June 18th & "2007 Best of" DVD production begins.

Other terms and requirements:

  • Films with copyright infringement will be deducted a full point off their average score.
  • If you submit media, both the adult mentor and three filmmakers must each screen, review and rate at least five pieces from other organizations. Failure to fully participate in the Discussion and Rating of Films means disqualification from the competition.
  • Only ratings with thoughtful comments are included. Ratings without comments are not posted, nor tallied.
  • Under no circumstances are you allowed to rate your own work, nor the work of others from your organization. If you are caught rating your work, you will be immediately disqualified from the competition.
  • By entering this competition, filmmakers and their mentors agree that their work will be included on a DVD for in-network distribution as well as for submission to the Kids First! Festival and other film venues. An entry form is required for each film.
