My Listen Up!

Below are several festivals that we suggest you watch because they are either youth-run or have a history of supporting youth media in a big way.

Docu-Jam (New York, NY)
Held in conjunction with the Museum of Television & Radio's "Television Documentary Festival," Docu-Jam is a 2-hour screening of some of the best youth films from across the country. Organized by the DCTV (New York).

Do It Your Damn Self!! Youth Film and Video Festival (Cambridge, MA)
Organized and curated by youth at the Cambridge Community Art Center, this is an awesome youth media film festival showing work from across the country.

The Future Filmmakers Festival (Chicago, IL)
Produced by the group that puts on the Chicago International Film Festival, this festival rocks the Midwest with youth-made films from around the country.

Hampton's International Film Festival (East Hampton, NY)
One of the top festivals in the country, Hampton's has created a "Golden Starfish" award, their top honor, for youth filmmakers & cash award. Organized in collaboration with Children's Media Project.

Media that Matters Film Festival (Online & International)
Making a short social doc under 7 minutes? Man, we've got a great gig for you. Media Matters screens films online for year, $1000 cash award, DVD, traveling festival and broadcast possibilities. Great exposure for little films!

One Minute, Jr. (Online & International)
Made a film that lasts a minute? Screen your work with hundreds of youth filmmakers from dozens of countries around the world. A yearly festival by the "Jr.'s" partner site, Oneminutes.org has a youth category. The winners are screened at venues worldwide.

Reel Teens (Woodstock, NY)
Since 2000, Reel Teens has evolved into one of more prestigious youth media venues. Cash awards in 8 categories, trophies, DVD of winning entries, traveling festival, and the whole ball of wax.


Tower of Youth (Los Angeles, CA)

Thinkin' West Coast? Think Tower of Youth in Los Angeles. Now in it's 9th year, this exciting festival runs concurrently with its Youth Education Day.

Tribeca Film Festival (New York, NY)
Founded by Robert DeNiro, Tribeca provides a space for youth filmmakers in their "Urban Voices" program. A collection of youth-made films are screened every year.

Urban Visionaries
Held at the Museum of Television & Radio, "Urban Vis" is the premier venue for work written, shot and edited by youth under 21 -- now with open for national/international submissions! Curated and run by youth, it's 2 days of jammed-packed, sold-out screenings in MT&R's state-of-the-art auditorium.
