Wow, what an inspiring character presented in smart, meditative cinema. Watch and learn how it's done.

I've known Q since the 8th grade and just from being around him in school you would never know the hardships he's been through...He's such an outgoing individual and loves to have fun...This documentary shows that today's kids are going through rougher and rougher situations and yet we don't buckle...We rise about our personal issues and become stronger people because of you...Quintin is such a bright individual and I'm so proud of his goal...Love you Q

Incredibly inspiring on so many levels. He nails it from content to aesthetic.
Emily Philpott | June 25, 2007
Well done, Quintin. You are a courageous and creative young man. You bridge the distance between hope and reality beautifully. Your editing was insightful~ lovely, powerful, meaningful imagery. Your creation on the sewing machine looked very much like Tibetan prayer flags; perhaps your interpretation of Westhaven prayer flags? We could use some of those flying all around Cville. Keep up the great work, both in film and design. Many thanks~

This simple film touched my heart. It shows so touchingly how there can be strength and hope in even the worst situations.
Val Matthews | June 25, 2007
Hope and courage - gotta love it! Quentin is a success... in sewing, filmmaking and living.
D.J. Crotteau | June 25, 2007
Heartwarming film about a real problem in our community. The lack of hope is well protrayed but the hope of a future rises above all.
anne vanderwarker | June 25, 2007
Really enjoyed a different (and positive) view of Westhaven!

This film is as fabulous as its maker! Quentin is expressive, creative and terribly honest in his description of his experiences.

A very mature, soulful and visually articulate film.

What an awesome film- a beautiful story of hope and how we can all transform our lives with a positive attitude. Can't wait to see more from this young film maker.

Inspiring and elegant, this film whets the appetite to learn much more about this fascinating and extremely strong young man. The images in the film are beautiful and yet incredibly stark at the same time. what a masterful acheivement. I want to see more work from this talented filmaker and would like to see more of his life and his work, both filmwise and fashionwise.
nora brookfield | June 20, 2007
Quintin describes his life in Westhaven as discouraging and filled with drama, and yet he has managed to make a film filled with hope and possibility.
Jane Matthews | June 20, 2007
Compelling and heart-warming. This film is an achievement for Quintin and those helping to get the camera in his hand to tell the story.

A sew very clear and strong statement of perseverence.
Neal Halvorson-Taylor | June 16, 2007
I am so impressed with SEW What and so proud of this young man who sees it in himself to make things change. His eyes tell many stories.
Susie Matheson | June 16, 2007
This is a nice short documentary. The one trick is that I am so interested in Quintin and his hobby, that I want more - how did he get started with sewing? did he figure it out himself or was he trained? does he design things from scratch or do mostly mending? etc... The video has some nice camerawork and solid audio recording. Great job!
Emily Bennison | June 16, 2007
A remarkable achievment that suggests a bright and productive future for this young artist
Clay Witt | June 16, 2007
What a wonderful way for children to show, and express their lives growing up in the housing development. I would like to see more of this type of film from our youth. Keep up the excellent work, let your imagination take you far. Express yourself to the world, because you are the leaders of our future. Keep the poitive energy moving in the right direction. H O O R A Y for Westhaven(projects).
Brynda Loving-Kotter | June 12, 2007
A very interesting subject matter. Some of the close ups of the sewing were well done.
Corrina Waxman | June 11, 2007
Way to go! It's great to see any young person make such a great statement about his life and desires. Quintin has captured a lot in his short piece and as already said, it is well edited and presented.
Jason Halbert | June 11, 2007
How refreshing to hear an uplifting story come out of Westhaven - so often criticized for being nothin but a ghetto. I am sure that Quintin will go far - and would love to see a longer piece telling me more out his dreams as a fashion designer!
Holly Hatcher | June 11, 2007
Simple, straight to the point story with excellent editing and thoughtful injections of sound and image. Well done.
Tom B. | June 11, 2007
I like the natural close-up portrait of the young man, and how surprising to see him as a seamstress. It left me feeling I definitely wanted to know more about his ambition, which is not a criticism but that I was hooked by the concept. I liked the perspectives on film. Not sure what the other kids had to do with the impression and left me dangling: who were they. Or is that for me to imagine? Thanks
nancy b. mcadams | June 11, 2007
Great, inspiring subject, very well-edited film with some striking poetic touches (the sky and birds, seen between brick walls; the girl with the whistle) that make this film a stand-out.
Richard Herskowitz | June 11, 2007
Living in Charlottesville, Virginia all my life, I have never seen the projects. They are hidden. This movie reminded me of Joseph's technicolor dreamcoat -- how the filmmaker Quintin has made something beautiful out of dust. Great color, great story, good videography. Bravo!!!
Bill Chapman | June 08, 2007
This was an interesting personal story
