This video was created around a stream-of-consciousness poem I wrote on the subjects of sleep, dreams, and the idea of escaping into a beautiful and isolating world of subconscious imagination. I wanted to look at how the mind connects consciousness, unconsciousness, and the waves of created images and sound that only it is capable of. Not only is the video an organic, imaginative exploration of the wonders of dreams, but it voices a wonder: what if you couldn't wake up from your dreams, and the similar question of what is "consciousness" like after death? Without making the video morbidly heavy, I tried to address these topics in a suggestive, non-specific way, that draws you into the dream as much as it makes you ponder it.

The layering of images to create a hazy reality works beautifully with the content and the sounds. Very eerie, dream-like. Some cuts seem too abrupt for the mood, but overall very successful and haunting.

The piece seemed very dark and ominous and the footage shows this fantastically. I think that the extreme contrast between the light dark worked well this the piece. The text had a very ghostly feel to it. In addition, the soundtrack sounded like it came out of a horror movie, the thunderstorm and the whispering worked very well to connect the footage. It really reminds me of Sadie Benning’s earlier work but has a modern feel to it by using the filters and text.
